Periodontal Maintenance Procedures follow active Periodontal therapy. Afterward, an interval is established for periodic ongoing care. This care is under the supervision of the periodontist and includes an update of the medical history, an evaluation of the periodontal status, removal of bacterial plaque from crevicular and pocket areas, scaling and root planing where indicated, polishing, and review of the patient's plaque control efficiency. The time of the interval will vary, depending on your own personal information. For some people, every 6 months is sufficient, but for others 3 or 4 times a year means scheduling every 3 or 4 months.

It is very important to keep your Recare (Recall) appointments as Periodontal Disease doesn’t take a break and if there are areas where it is hard for you to reach and keep clean, then the hardened calculus (tartar) will build up and only a dental professional can get it off.
