2-D & 3-D graphical representations of occlusal forces

The T-Scan® II is the only system available to measure dental occlusal forces and quantify how well-balanced a patient's occlusion is.

Now, we can perfect your bite with precision and know for certain the result of our efforts.

Evaluating occlusal forces is as simple as having you bite down on the ultra-thin sensor while the computer analyzes and displays the data as shown to the left.

Measure Force and Time
Because the T-Scan can measure force over time, it is an indispensable tool for appraising the sequential relationships of a mandibular (lower jaw) movements. You can view, on screen, a patient sliding from MIP (where all of the teeth are in Maximum Intercuspal Position where all teeth bite together) or CR (Centric Relation position when the jaw closes on its backwards most arc of closure) into a lateral excursion (when you slide your teeth to the left or right side.) This is instrumental in locating occlusal interferences, determining the relative force on each interference, and evaluating the potential for trauma caused by the occlusal interferences.

Imagine how useful this is on a long span fixed prosthesis built upon implants, or any dental case where occlusion plays a role!

Excellent Documentation and Patient Communication
After recording a T-Scan dental occlusion movie we can store the data in our computer and retrieve it as needed. T-Scan's vivid, full-color graphics can be transferred into other documents for patient records or insurance reports. These same images can be used to raise your patient education standard to the next level. My patients are fascinated and impressed when they can see for themselves the improvements we can make to their "bite' in color video!

  • Dr. Steven Rose of San Jose, CA states that, "The graphic representations produced by the T-Scan are not only easy to understand by the treating clinician, but also create a beneficial tool for the patient, to help them visualize and understand the nature and degree of their occlusal disharmony. It's a wonderful clinical and teaching aid."

Using T-Scan has brought our practice another step into the future!

The T-Scan brings unprecedented accuracy to analysis of dental occlusion, making us a more informed practitioner, therefore ensuring a higher quality result.

The T-Scan minimizes trauma to abutment teeth, broken implant abutments, unstable denture prosthesis, fractured dental restorative materials, and ineffective splints!

You can follow a sample case and download a sample movie below to see just how T-Scan II works.

Standard Software Features

  • Real-time Display
  • Frame by Frame Playback
  • Center of Force Determination
  • Customizable Arch Model
  • Adjustable Pressure Range
  • User Selected Recording Parameters
  • Patient Database File Storage/Retrieval
  • 2-D & 3-D Graphical Color Display Modes
  • Calculation of Force/Time Intervals
  • Dynamic Peak Pressure Path
  • Graphical Analysis and much, much, more!
  • Dynamic View - watch an "occlusal movie" (click open on prompt to view movie, and escape to exit)
In addition to looking at the different views of maximum intercuspal forces in a static mode, you can also use the
T-Scan to assess the dynamic aspects of an entire functional movement. You can determine where the first contact is, and if it is early or premature. This is possible because the T-Scan breaks a bite sequence into 0.01 second increments during occlusal loading.

Sensor Description

T-Scan_II_sensor102The T-Scan sensor was the first developed in 1987 with the start of the company. Since then, Tekscan has continued to improve the sensor design through Research and Development to ensure for the most accurate and reliable data. Today, Tekscan is pleased offer our 4th generation T-Scan sensor.

  • Sensor Thickness is only 100 microns- no interference with natural bite.
  • Sensor is more durable than ever!
  • The disposable sensor can be reused for ~15-25 recordings.
  • The 4th generation sensor has no shelf-life date on the sensor- you can use them when you need them.
  • 50% reduction of inactive area in the 4th generation sensors as compared to generations 1-3.
